May 2009 News Update

Twice a year representatives from The Friends meet with David Allister, Head of Parks, on The Green, to see what needs to be done.  This year, as well as Sam Costin, our Environment Officer, we were joined for this tour of inspection by Tony Bendelow, from Twickenham Cricket Club.  I am glad to report that our newly planted London Plane tree on the Staines Road boundary, is doing well, and that re-turfing that had taken place adjacent to the central pathway appears to have become established.  Nearly a year after the surface damage of last May, we seem to have The Green looking healthy again. David Allister promised us that the railing would soon get a new coat of paint, and I am glad to report that too has now been completed.  We find these on site visits extremely useful, and are grateful that The Parks Department are there to address our concerns.

I look forward to meeting you on Monday May 25th at the Annual Hands Fair.  A long standing member engaged me in conversation recently, saying how impressed he is every year, to see at the Fair, so many local groups and organizations that give their time to such good causes.  Keep your fingers crossed for good weather, and come along and say ‘Hello’ to us.

Finally, we have a full members meeting in The Cricket Pavilion, on Tuesday 2nd June at 8:00pm.  New members are always welcome, so why not come along and join us?
