March 2010 News Update

Notes from the Chair – 15/03/10

Spring finally seems to be arriving, but not without a struggle.  Am I the only one to notice how late the daffodils are this year?  It has apparently been the coldest winter for thirty one years, and The Green has certainly felt the effects.  The large amount of rainfall have left much of the open areas very wet, and consequently prone to damage, given he heavy use on The Green throughout the winter.  Along with our Environment Officer and the Groundsmen from the Cricket Club, we shall be meeting very shortly with the Parks Department to see how best to look after our precious asset.

If you want to help us out more immediately, then come and join us at 10: 30, Sunday 21st March, and meet at the recycling centre behind the Pavilion.  This is our twice yearly clean up, where we scour the Green to remove any litter; weed the beds, and endeavour to remove all the winter’s detritus from The Green.  Bring some gardening gloves and a sense of enthusiasm!

Look forward to seeing you there.

Cheers,

Howard Roberts, Chair, Friends of Twickenham Green
