June 2009 News Update

Fortunately the weather turned out fine for the Annual Hands Fair on The Green.  All of us on The Friends stand enjoyed the day, and it was especially pleasing to have the chance to meet local people, and explain what we do.  As usual, we signed up several new  members.  Our next event on The Green will be joining in with the Twickenham Green Festival Fun Day on Saturday 20^th June.   We will have our stall there, and look forward to enjoying the music, and having the opportunity to meet new friends.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the local Friends who volunteer to watch over and water our new trees.  Whilst the trees do come with a watering contract, even a few dry days can make a critical difference to our young saplings.  It is therefore a great service that local people provide, to water these tress as necessary.  Much appreciated.

As you are probably aware, we have a triangular Green.  Arthur’s Restaurant and the shrubbery make a focal point for one end; The Cricket Pavilion makes a fine landmark on the Hampton Road side.  However, the third corner, currently lacks a distinctive focus.  We are keen to find out if the local community has any suggestions for a modestly priced feature for the Staines Roadcorner.  Our own members are looking in to the possibility of a horse trough for a floral display, but we would particularly like to hear your views.  Please contact us via this site - email Howard Roberts

Finally, we have been experiencing some technical difficulties with our e mailed agendas and minutes for our regular meetings.  If for any reason you think you have slipped off our list please do not hesitate to contact us.  Our next full members meeting is also our Annual General Meeting, and will be held in The Cricket Pavilion, on Tuesday, September 1^st.  I look forward to seeing you there.
