October 2009 News Update
This year’s visit by Zippos Circus passed off successfully. The circus were happy with their new September slot, and have re-booked for next September. Attendances were up, and a lot of young people enjoyed themselves. Glad also to say, that the damage to The Green was only slight, and re-seeding and minor repairs have already taken place, paid for by Zippos.
Along with our Environment Office, Sam Costin, I met with David Allister, Head of Parks and Open Spaces, and we held our annual review of the condition of The Green. Of particular concern, was the condition of the grass, at the cricket pitch end of The Green. The area adjacent to Hampton Road and the Cricket Pavilion, and the strip parallel to First Cross Road, were in a very poor state. After some negotiation, it has been agreed to re-seed this area as soon as possible, jointly funded by the council, the Cricket Club and The Friends of Twickenham Green. We just hope it is in time to let the seed establish itself. We will keep you posted.
At our latest executive meeting of The Friends, we have discussed local issues of noise nuisance, the setting up of a sub committee to manage the Twickenham Green Fete and the proposed sale of Gifford House. All this, along with our regular agenda items of planning updates, membership information and reports from our resident officers.
Remember our next full members meeting will be Tuesday December 1st. We always endeavour to keep the business brief at this meeting, in order that we can have a Christmas party. Look forward to seeing you there.
One final note. It has been suggested that we change our meetings from Tuesday nights, because this can clash with council meetings. We do value the attendance of our councilors whenever possible, but would members wish us to meet on a different night, in order that we could more fully ensure councilors attendance? Let us know how you feel.
Best wishes,
Howard Roberts, Chair, Friends of Twickenham Green
