August 2009 News Update
A quieter month on The Green in terms of formal engagements. Our three low impact events, The Hands Fair, The Funday and our own Friends of Twickenham Green Fete, have all passed off successfully, with no sustained damage to the fabric of The Green. Local people have been left with a Green in good condition to be enjoyed by all.
Many of you will be aware that this year’s visit by Zippos Circus, has been put back until September, on the recommendation of The Parks Department, after consultation with The Friends. The object here was to maintain the very popular circus visit, whilst recognizing that if damage was incurred by the heavy vehicles associated with the circus, we would have the winter months to effect repairs. The Parks Department have also assured us that there will be a wet weather policy in the event of heavy rain at the time of the visit. I, like many others, look forward to seeing the circus back here on The Green.
If any of you have yet to receive an agenda and minutes for our Annual General Meeting, please contact us as soon as possible via this site. All committee posts are up for election, there will be an annual report on our progress, and David Allister, Head of Parks, will be there to answer any of your questions, relating to The Green. The bar will be open, and it will be nice to see old and new members, and have a chance to chat. I look forward to seeing you all there, at The Pavilion, 8:00pm, Tuesday 1st Sepetmber.
Howard Roberts, Chair, Friends of Twickenham Green
